What Are The Types of Cosmetic Injectables?
Injectable neurotoxins or neuromodulators work to smooth fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing muscles responsible for their formation. These neurotoxins primarily target dynamic wrinkles, which appear when facial muscles are engaged in expression. Studies have also indicated their effectiveness in treating migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes. They can help with frown lines, crow's feet, forehead furrows, skin bands on the neck, and more. Neurotoxins have limited effects on static wrinkles, which are visible even at rest. Cosmetic fillers, such as hyaluronic acid-based products and collagen stimulators, can address volume loss due to aging and sun exposure. They can be used to lift cheeks, reduce under-eye bags and dark circles, smooth smile lines, enhance the lips, and diminish vertical lip lines.
Why Use Both Botulinum and Fillers?
In the past, injections of collagen and fat were common methods to restore lost volume, but nowadays, the preferred approach involves using fillers based on hyaluronic acid. These include products like those known as Juvederm, Voluma, Belotero, Restylane, or Perlane. Additionally, there are other types of fillers that do not rely on hyaluronic acid, such as Radiesse and Sculptra, which trigger a reaction in the body to stimulate collagen production. However, pure collagen injections are no longer widely used due to their short-lived effects and potential for allergic reactions. Fat injections, although permanent, present drawbacks such as the risk of developing lumps and fluctuations in volume, especially if the individual gains weight. Since aging involves a multifaceted process, addressing volume loss along with fine lines and wrinkles is essential. To tackle this three-dimensional issue effectively, we utilize a blend of neurotoxin to relax muscles and hyaluronic acid-based fillers to replenish lost volume and address various signs of aging. While neurotoxins and fillers operate differently, their combined effects typically complement each other, producing a synergistic outcome.
